Dear esteemed members of the Institute of Internal Auditors Papua New Guinea,
As we embark on a new year, I am honored to address you as your newly elected President. The year 2024 has brought significant developments for our profession, and I am excited to share our vision for 2025 and beyond.
2024 Developments
Last year has been transformative for the internal audit profession globally. The Institute of Internal Auditors released the Global Internal Audit Standards on 9 January, 2024, which will become effective on 9 January, 2025. These standards incorporate content from the previous mandatory elements of the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) and aim to enhance the consistency and quality of internal audit services.
Strategic Initiatives for 2025
As we look ahead to 2025, our focus will be on aligning our practices with these new global standards and strengthening the role of internal auditors in Papua New Guinea. Here are our key strategic initiatives:
Professional Development
We will intensify our efforts to provide high-quality training and development opportunities for our members. Our goal is to ensure that PNG internal auditors are well-equipped to meet the evolving challenges of our profession.
Technology and Innovation
In line with global trends, we will emphasize the importance of embracing technological change. We aim to help our members stay ahead of potential risks and transform their ways of working, particularly in areas such as cybersecurity.
Stakeholder Engagement
We plan to strengthen our relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, private sector organisations, and international partners. This will help elevate the profile of internal auditing in PNG and ensure our profession continues to add value to organisations across the country.
Certification and Standards
We will support our members in adopting the new Global Internal Audit Standards by 9 January, 2025. Additionally, we aim to support our members to sit for the Certified Internal Auditors (CIA) examination program and increase the number of CIA's in PNG over the next 18 to 24 months, so our members can attain internationally recognised CIA accreditation.
New Executive Board
I am pleased to announce that we have a new executive board in place, bringing fresh perspectives and diverse expertise to our organisation.
The following new executive board members are:
Leonisa Bosimbi, Vice President
Jonathan Pala, Treasurer
Oita Tati, Secretary
Together, we are committed to driving these strategic initiatives forward and supporting the growth and development of our members.
New Office Location
To kick off the new year with a fresh start in January 2025, we are excited to announce our relocation to a new office. Our new address will be located at CT Hub Building 1, Steamships Compound, Central Waigani, National Capital District, Port Moresby.
The new office is conveniently situated opposite the Unity Mall Car park. This move represents not just a change in location, but a step forward in our commitment to providing better services and facilities for our members. The new space will offer improved meeting areas, enhanced technology infrastructure, and a more central location for easier access.
We believe this new office will serve as a hub for professional development, networking, and collaboration among our members. We look forward to welcoming you to our new home in the heart of Port Moresby as we embark on this exciting new chapter for IIA PNG
Looking Ahead
The year 2025 holds great promise for PNG internal auditors and our stakeholders. As we celebrate PNG's 50th year of independence, we also look forward to our profession playing an increasingly crucial role in the country's development. We anticipate greater collaboration with IIA - Australian, which has been our professional development partner and supporting us with trainers for workshops on internal audit practices. Moreover, with increased focus on resilience on accountability in the public sector and governance reforms, internal auditors will be at the forefront of ensuring these initiatives are implemented effectively.
In closing, I am confident that with your support and active participation, we can elevate the internal audit profession in PNG to new heights. Together, we will embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, continuing to add value to our organisations and contributing to the growth and prosperity of our nation.
Thank you for your trust and commitment. Let's make 2025 a landmark year for IIA PNG!
Stotick Kaprangi
President
